The Benefits of a Dairy Free Diet
When we created the Badass Power Cookie, we aimed to make a powerful protein cookie that was both healthful and delicious. We saw that there were no protein bars on the market that encompassed everything we wanted — nutrient dense, soy free, without any animal products or preservatives, and badass enough to keep up with us. In particular, we couldn’t find truly badass dairy free protein bars. Most protein bars use whey protein, which is derived from cow’s milk. Whey protein powder is highly processed and filled with sugar and additives, but it is cheap and easy to manufacture. At Badass Power Cookie, we aren’t interested in cutting corners when it comes to our health. That is why it was so important to us that our protein cookie be lactose and dairy free.
There is a myth in American society that you need to drink milk in order to be healthy. In actuality, humans are not meant to consume cow’s milk. We are actually the only species that consumes milk after infancy. The fact that we don’t need dairy to be healthy, and that it is actually quite unhealthy for us, is exemplified by the fact that most people develop some degree of lactose intolerance as they age. This is because our bodies stop producing the enzyme necessary to process lactose over time. Our bodies tell us that we shouldn’t be consuming dairy, and still we don’t listen!
