6 Vegan Sources of Protein

Protein is essential to our health and well-being. Protein literally builds our bodies; it is used to make our skin, organs, muscles, and tendons. It is also essential for making the enzymes, neurotransmitters, hormones, and other molecules we need to function. We literally could not live without protein.

Plant-Based Protein Myths

There is a lot of misinformation out there about plant-based protein. If you are vegan or vegetarian, you have likely had people ask, “what about protein?” Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of plant-based sources of protein that give you all of the protein you need in a day. There is also a misconception that you need far more protein than you actually do. While protein is absolutely important, the standard American diet actually has far more protein than is really necessary. If you are considering going vegan but are concerned about getting enough protein, there are many vegan sources of protein available to you:

Lentils are a nutrient-dense food that are a great source of protein. A cup of lentils provides 18 grams of protein. On top of that, it also provides 16 grams of dietary fiber and are an excellent source of folate and iron.
