Yoga & Veganism

The badasses who eat our vegan protein cookies love to participate in a variety of badass activities. From mountain climbing to skydiving to triathlons, our protein cookies have fueled many a badass physical activity. One badass practice many of our vegan customers participate in is yoga, and it isn’t hard to understand why; yoga is pretty badass, and aligns perfectly with vegan ideals. Not to mention, it offers a wide variety of benefits.

Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is beneficial to both your mind and your body. Here are just some of the benefits you may experience from practicing yoga:

  • Increased flexibility
  • Better posture
  • Improved sleep
  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Better mood
  • Improved concentration
  • Increased balance
  • Reduced tension
  • Better immunity
  • Improved digestion

As you can see, yoga can have a powerful effect on your life, just as veganism can. But how else do these two relate?

The Yoga/Vegan Connection

From a philosophical perspective, veganism and yoga are very similar. In fact, one of the central ethical tenets, or yamas, of yoga is ahimsa, meaning non-violence. This dictates that you should aim to live in a way that isn’t harmful to any living creature. Veganism naturally aids this philosophy, and many people are vegan out of the desire to be compassionate towards animals. The “father” of yoga, Patanjali, even wrote in the yamas that yogis should eat a vegetarian diet. While a vegetarian diet generally includes dairy and eggs, back then, there was no factory farming, so the practice of eating these was far more ethical. Today, the cruelty of the egg and dairy industry dictates that a vegan diet is the most compassionate way to eat, so many yogis choose to eat vegan.
